Dr. Gabi Mocatta is a former journalist, a Lecturer in Communication at Deakin University, Melbourne, and a Research Fellow in Climate Change Communication with the climate science research group, Climate Futures, at the University of Tasmania, Australia. Gabi is a media and communication researcher with a strong interest in science and environmental communication. She studies media discourse around energy transitions, climate change, protest movements and and environmental justice in a variety of national contexts. She is especially interested in the relationship between environmental harms and social inequality, and ways in which this relationship plays out in the media.

Gabi is a collaborator with the Media and Climate Change Observatory (MeCCO), contributing analysis of Russian media coverage of climate change to this group's international climate change media monitoring.

Gabi is currently working on a book (together with Dr. Erin Hawley) Environmental Communication in a Time of Crisis to be published by Routledge in 2023.
