2008 GLOBE Learning Expedition (GLE) and Annual Conference
University of Cape Town, South Africa
June 22 - June 28, 2008

UOP’s GLOBE Program Office invites all interested faculty and students to attend the 2008 GLOBE Learning Expedition (GLE) and Annual Conference, which will take place 22–28 June at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

Hundreds of students, scientists, and educators from many of GLOBE’s 110 partner countries will attend the week-long event. The theme for the 2008 GLE is “GLOBE Research for Sustainable Communities.” Students will present results from their local and regional Earth system science research projects, which deal with topics such as environmental impacts on quality of life (including water quality issues and malaria) and regional impacts of climate change. They will also engage in field studies to learn more about the natural and cultural landscape of the greater Cape Town area.

The 2008 GLE will encourage students from around the world to examine the fundamental issues of building sustainable communities that balance the fulfillment of human needs with the protection of the natural environment. Participants will also establish personal and professional friendships and develop collaborative partnerships that will enhance their future research experiences in GLOBE.
