Application deadline: US CLIVAR Climate Prediction Applications Postdoctoral Program (CPAPP)

July 1, 2008

Institutional partners are now being sought through UOP’s Visiting Scientist Programs for the new U.S. CLIVAR Climate Prediction Applications Postdoctoral Program (CPAPP). It has been developed to build the pool of scientists qualified to transfer advances in climate science and prediction into decision frameworks and tools. CLIVAR (Climate Variability and Predictability) is a project of the World Climate Research Programme.

Each of the new CPAPP fellowships will involve one institution whose focus is climate science and another that studies decision making. In order to sponsor a CPAPP postdoctoral researcher, each pair of institutions must submit a joint statement of intent that describes the partners; the problems, decision, and/or issues they plan to address; and the roles and responsibilities of each institution.

CPAPP institutions will be chosen based on how well their statements of intent align with program goals and the number of fellowships available. Strong preference will be given to institutional partners focusing on real-time decisions affected by climate. The choice of partners will form the basis of an announcement of opportunity for postdoctoral researchers, to be released in August.
