Congressional Hearing Featured Research by Weinkle, Maue and Pielke

August 5, 2013

"Climate Change: It's Happening Now," a hearing of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public WorksAt a July 18 hearing, “Climate Change: It's happening now”, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works considered a graph from a 2012 paper by CSTPR graduate student Jessica Weinkle (with Ryan Maue and Roger Pielke, Jr.) titled Historical Global Tropical Cyclone Landfalls. The graph demonstrated no observable long term global trends in landfalling hurricane frequency or severity. The hearing featured testimony from Roger Pielke, Jr., and others about current and expected impacts of climate change as well as the appropriateness of public policy solutions.
