As head of ESIG at the time I was called by a D.C. government friend who told me NSF was not happy. If congress cut the budget of the USG CRP because of Roper's comments, ESlG would be the first to get cut!! All because Roger was doing good honest research while sitting in EsiG . there were other problems with this situation at the time. I had some sleepless nights. I'll talk to Roger about interactions I had with management!! Mickey P.S. Roger got the post doctoral fellowship. I nominated him and outside letters supported his appointment! on merit.
