January 03, 2005Senior Research Fellow for Science and ImpactsPosted to Job Announcements Pew Center on Global Climate Change: Arlington, Virginia The Pew Center on Global Climate Change seeks a highly qualified and committed person to coordinate activities on the science and environmental impacts of climate change in coordination with the Center's Director of Policy Analysis. The position will manage Pew's work on determining the state of the knowledge about the science and environmental impacts of climate change and to communicate this knowledge to policy-makers by publishing reports, conducting conferences, and communicating findings. Responsibilities: · Oversee the Pew Center's science and environmental impacts program; · Serve as in-house scientist for the Center; including frequent interaction with media/press · Coordinate expert workshops on topics such as the environmental impacts of and adaptation possibilities to climate change; · Manage the Pew Center's Environmental Impacts reports series; · Attend workshops and conferences on the science and environmental impacts of climate change and present findings based on Pew Center reports and research; · Identify new areas of research in line with the Pew environmental impacts program mission; · Work with high-level academic, business, and policy-makers. Qualifications: Graduate degree in natural science, environmental science, meteorology, or earth science with knowledge or experience in the environmental impacts of climate change - PhD preferred; well-developed writing/editing skills and ability to translate technical jargon into plain English; ability to communicate effectively with high-level academic, business, and policy people; ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time; and attention to detail. The position requires excellent management, organizational, and communications skills. The applicant should be highly motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a small, dedicated team. Salary: Competitive salary, depending on background and experience.
