MAJOR DUTIES:
Incumbent applies social science methods and information to coastal management issues; provides social science technical assistance to CSC staff and external partners and customers; identifies how the beliefs, attitudes, values, behaviors, and socioeconomic, demographic and organizational characteristics of stakeholders are relevant to watershed and hazards topics; coordinates and manages contracts, grants and interagency agreements; develops, implements and provides technical assistance on appropriate needs assessment tools; supports the Human Dimensions (HD) Program planning and administration; assists in HD program evaluation and alignment of projects to NOS and NOAA goals; assists in the development and implementation of performance measures for the program.

The University of Waterloo invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level specializing in Human Dimensions of Climate Change or Hazards. Preference will be given to applicants who have expertise in the consequences of climate change and response options (adaptation and mitigation policy, planning and technology, cultural sensitivity) or expertise in assessing the vulnerabilities of human systems to hazards. The ability to contribute to the research program of the new Interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change (IC3) is desirable. The successful candidate is expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The position is in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Environmental Studies. The Faculty also includes the Department of Environment and Resource Studies, School of Planning, Centre for Environment and Business, and Centre for Knowledge Integration. Applicants must have a PhD. Applications must include statements of career objectives, research interests, and the applicant's approach to teaching and learning. Applicants must include with the letter of application a curriculum vitae and the names (with contact information) of four referees. The first stage in the review of applicants will be based on the letter of application and the CV. Referees will be contacted for those being considered in the second stage of the review.

The review of applications will commence on Friday, 15 February 2008, and continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is 1 September 2008 (or sooner).
