variability, trends, processes involved. unpublished PhD thesis (Escola Politécnica -

- The study provides the general characteristics of rainfall variabilityin
São Paulo, which is the main developing center of Brazil. A large proportion of the population, industry and farming are concentrate in the State. São Paulo City, the State's capital is presently one of the largest cities in the world. So, it is clear that São Paulo State is heavily dependent on adequate rainfall and is vulnerable to even small rainfall variability. Results showed significant rainfall variability. It was notices a general trend for increasing in precipitation . The highest variability was found for autumn and winter. In these seasons the influence of ENSO in its warm phase (El Niño)was more evident producing an increasing in rainfall volume.
