Association of State Flood Plain Managers
The Association of State Floodplain Managers is an organization of professionals involved in floodplain management, flood hazard mitigation, the National Flood Insurance Program, and flood preparedness, warning and recovery. ASFPM has become a respected voice in floodplain management practice and policy in the United States because it represents the flood hazard specialists of local, state and federal government, the research community, the insurance industry, and the fields of engineering, hydrologic forecasting, emergency response, water resources, and others.

Data on Disasters
Over the years, the Natural Hazards Research and Applications Information Center has received many requests for information about the frequency, severity, social consequences, and the costs of natural disasters. As a result, the Selected Sources of Data on Disasters and Disaster Costs was compiled, listing some of the more useful and credible sources of such data on the Internet.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is an independent agency of the federal government, reporting to the President. FEMA's mission has been to reduce loss of life and property and protect our nation's critical infrastructure from all types of hazards through a comprehensive, risk-based, emergency management program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

Flood Insurance
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) makes Federally-backed flood insurance available in communities that agree to adopt and enforce floodplain management ordinances to reduce future flood damage. The NFIP is self-supporting for the average historical loss year, which means that operating expenses and flood insurance claims are not paid for by the taxpayer, but through premiums collected for flood insurance policies.

Natural Hazards Center, University of Colorado, Boulder
The Natural Hazards Center, is a national and international clearinghouse for information on natural hazards and human adjustments to hazards and disasters. The Natural Hazards Center carries out its mission in four principal areas: information dissemination, an annual workshop, research, and library services. The center's prime goal is to increase communication among hazard/disaster researchers and those individuals, agencies, and organizations that are actively working to reduce disaster damage and suffering.

Societal Aspects of Weather
The Societal Aspects of Weather WWW portal is an online resource to facilitate, encourage, and support the formation of a researcher-user partnership and community of people involved in the societal aspects of weather. The site serves as a central clearinghouse for on-line resources for this topic and provides some of the tools for increased interaction between researchers and users of weather information

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Construction Division Annual Flood Damage Reduction Reports
The Annual Flood Damage Reduction Reports are published at the request of Congress beginning with Fiscal Year 1983. With the cooperation of the National Weather Service Office of Hydrology and the Climate Prediction Center, this report is published by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Construction Division, Hydraulics-Hydrology Branch, Water Control/Water Quality Section, and approved by the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works).
